The 28th
Annual Limestone Sheriff’s Rodeo culminated recently with the crowning
of 21 year old, Lacee Olson of Holly Pond, Alabama, as Miss Limestone
Rodeo, 2010. This followed weeks of keen competition in a pageantry
event that drew contestants from as far away as Missouri.
The daughter of Vonda Smith and Randy Olson, Lacee is originally from
Altoona, Kansas, but moved to Alabama two years ago in hopes of pursuing
a degree in Equine Science and Agri-Business. She has been accepted for
enrollment this fall at Auburn University.
Lacee was a fierce barrel racer when she competed in the Kansas High
School Rodeo Association, and later in the Central Plains Region
Collegiate Rodeo Circuit as a representative of the Garden City
Community College, in Garden City, Kansas. She still enjoys the
competitiveness of barrel racing as well as breakaway and team roping.
While living in Cullman County, Lacee has been employed at the Cullman
Stockyards as an assistant for livestock auctions. Some of her new
friends encouraged her to enter the West Point Rodeo Queen Pageant, and
she won the pageant in 2009. After completing her reign, she entered the
Miss Limestone Rodeo Pageant in hopes of winning the scholarship money
to further her education.
“I am thankful to receive the scholarship money to pursue my dream of
working with horses and the business disciplines of agriculture. And I
am thankful for all the new friends in Athens and Limestone County. The
Queen Pageant Committee made all of the contestants feel at home even
during a very competitive pageant. I will be proud to represent the
Limestone Sheriff’s Rodeo as its ambassador for the upcoming year”, said
Miss Olson.
In addition to the overall title, Lacee earned the Speech and
Horsemanship awards, received a custom-made trophy saddle, jewelry, and
western style clothing, along with numerous other gifts.
“We are thankful for the success of this pageant and we are humbled to
have drawn contestants from as far away as Missouri. Four of our
contestants have gone on to become Miss Rodeo USA, and we are
particularly proud to have Lacee representing us as our ambassador for
this upcoming year. Her experience in rodeo events and her platform of
‘Fearlessly Blessed’ will serve her well during her reign,” added
Sheriff Mike Blakely.
